[ a cabin in the sky ]
The cabin is a small, single-room structure at the very peak of the mountain; it was built as a base camp for hiking to the top of the hill.
Getting to it is not for the timid; we decided to allow the land to reclaim the temporary jeep road we cut for construction. Entry is best done via horse, dirt bike or shank's mare. And although it is less than a half mile in distance from the main house, it is important it's also over a 1000 feet higher. Neither is the road a straight shot -- it's heavily switchbacked to climb the hill. Best bet is take some sandwiches and beer [although we generally keeps some stores], if not your sleeping bag.
But it is worth it for the incredible view.
The cabin is fitted for plumbing and the leach field cleared, but no active fixtures have been installed. Power is provided by portable generator to fill marine gel cells, and general lights are wired. Heat is provided by a wood stove.
In the interest of full disclosure, it should be noted that there is a small discrepancy between surveys regarding the cabin's location; a not uncommon happening in these sort of circumstances, unfortunately. The conflicting land owner is aware, and willing to work out a solution with the purchaser.
