[ mountain springs & more ]
The property has plenty of water, year round. There are two permanent streams that seem completely unaffected by the drought conditions normal to the southeast right now; we surmise they're actually exposed springheads from a deep aquifer and that at least one of them is a feeder for a trout stream on Forest Service land. The third spring head doesn't seem to be affected by drought, but does seem to be seasonal in rotation. The water does have light bacteria, probably due to the moss at their heads -- so unless you're acclimated, we recommend light filtering before drinking raw.
We used the two permanent streams to create a pond directly below the dome; this was done by creating small collection pools and installing force-fed gravity pumps, so no power is needed to keep the pond circulating and fresh. Pond runoff is returned directly to the stream without human contamination. Although we are not currently using it this way, it should provide consistent trickle power for the battery system.
The pond is lined, and has been stocked with koi; we're already seeing their second and third generations. It also serves as a breeding ground for the local tree frog population, which we've seen [and heard] grow tremendously since creating it.
